But then she finally regains consciousness only to find that she has no memory of who she is or where she belongs.
Beth, as she takes to calling herself, is an enigma even to herself. She has the rough hands of a servant, but the bearing and apparent education of a lady. Her only clue to her identity is a gruesome recurring nightmare about a hummingbird dripping blood from its steel beak.
With the help of James and his sister, Caroline, Beth slowly begins to unravel the mystery behind her identity and the sinister circumstances that brought her to their door. But the dangerous secrets they discover in doing so could have deadly ramifications reaching the highest tiers of London society.

MY REVIEW
This book gave me the chills. The fact that Beth has strange recurring nightmares and does not remember her past, even her name, is very creepy indeed. I was reading this book late at night and it added to the effect! I think I’m going to have many nightmares haha. The Hummingbird Dagger instilled the intended fear into me as a reader.
The characters are wonderful.
Beth – The main character may have lost her memories but she has a sharp mind and ready to fight anything. She is resilient and brave and daring. She learned to smile despite being haunted by nightmares and hunted by strangers.
James Ellerby – The one who runs the manor is a responsible young man. He has a horrible temper tantrums sometimes (poor Walter) but I adore how he cares for Beth and is always ready to accommodate her needs.
Caroline Ellerby – She reminds me of sunshine, which is no wonder she’s my favorite character. Caroline is bright and cheerful, with quick wit, a brave and loyal heart as a sister, friend, and lady. She has an eye for fashion but is not afraid to get herself dirty with paint colors. She’s not quick to give up!
Walter Ellerby – Wild child of the book. As much as he annoys me sometimes with his spoiled and high impression of himself as well as the way he treats people around him, he grew quite caring to Beth and is ready to defend her.
As for the other characters, I can hardly keep track of them haha.
The plot was a bit slow, but probably because it is set in a huge and lonely house. The quick bursts of shocking events that left a lot of time to recover made up for it, though. The pacing, in my opinion, was normal for a mystery novel.
Blood and bandits. Dogs and daggers. Sinister and strange. If you love those, then you’ll love The Hummingbird Dagger.
